Baptist Collegiate Ministries at Virginia Tech is a Christian student organization that exists to equip students to pursue three core values: after God’s heart, in community, and on mission.
After God’s Heart
At the center of everything we do is the pursuit of God and his kingdom. This is the heart of our weekly worship service, called 6:33, which comes from the verse Matthew 6:33 where Jesus teaches us to “seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness.” We encourage each other to invest in spiritual growth by following after Jesus in a way that changes us to become like him.
In Community
We believe that our lives as followers of Jesus can only be lived fully in the context of genuine community. BCM plans many social events and outings to develop our sense of community and to allow new people to get connected to the group in a fun and welcoming environment. Because it can be difficult to make meaningful connections at large group events, we also meet weekly for smaller family group Bible studies. These groups are places where we can build real friendships, study the Bible together, safely ask questions, pray for each other, do outreach, and encourage and support one another.
On Mission
We believe we are called to love those around us in the name of Jesus. BCM provides many opportunities for students to do this through campus outreach, service projects in our community and the surrounding area, and opportunities for domestic and international mission trips during school breaks.
As we seek to prepare students to be the present and future leaders of the church, students serve in all of our leadership roles, such as leading our worship services, Bible studies, social events, and outreach, with our staff members serving to direct and support the ministry.
The BCM is for more than just Baptist students, but it is sponsored by the Virginia Baptist Mission Board.
